The Grindleford Gallop – Another year, another sellout . . .

The Grindleford Gallop opened to entries back in the middle of November and within 24 hours we’d had just under 200 (199) entries out of a total field of 600. Within 8 days we were completely booked up.

It’s a testament to the hard work committed by various volunteers over the years it has been running that the Gallop has become such a popular event.

But it is also a testament to what a wonderful place we’re all lucky enough to live in. Surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, with hills and valleys that are ideal for walking, running, cycling, climbing and lots more, but importantly with a village community that strives to make things better for all.

The funds raised from the Gallop all go to Grindleford Primary School’s PTA account, helping the school provide facilities to the children to ensure the next generation are educated in an environment that is inspirational and rewarding.

The event’s competitor field itself has changed over the years it’s been running, to become more of a running (no pun intend) event than a walking event and it’s slowly rising in stature on the running calendar.

But it’s still got a good mix of people and ability taking part which we think adds to the atmosphere you will find on the day.

So, if you are about on Saturday March the 9th this year and want to help out then contact us, otherwise just pop down to the Pavilion from any time shortly after 12 midday and cheer on some of the returning competitors.

Or if you’re feeling more active let us know and we can put you on the e-mail list for notification of the event opening next year.
