Padley Chapel, Manor & Gatehouse
Padley Chapel, Manor & Gatehouse
The chapel was consecrated in 1933 and is run under the direction of the diocese of Hallam. Prior to this, the building we see today, which is, in fact, a mediaeval Gatehouse of 1350, was used for 300 years as a barn and was thus saved from depletion when the Manor house was demolished and the stone recycled as building material. What a sad demise for such a historic mediaeval house which has such a tragic and dramatic history. Lately English Heritage has paid much attention to the ruins mapping and numbering every stone; they intend to repair loose stones.
